Who's your Idol?

So watching American Idol the past couple weeks got me thinking and especially with last night's show about their Idols. The world has materialized everything and idolizes everything. But I wonder how God feels about this. He is the one who created everything and wants us to give Him the glory. I'm also reminded about how often I don't give God credit for everything that happens in my life or give him the attention that He deserves. I put other things in my life before Him (like watching shows etc..).
The Bible talks a lot about idols:

"Don't make idols for yourselves or set up statues or memorials. Don't put stone statues in your land to bow down to, because I am the Lord your God" (Leviticus 26:1)

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Deuteronomy 20:3)

"The idol is something a craftsman made; it is not God. Israel's calf-shaped idol will surely be smashed to pieces." (Hosea 8:6)

So how can we not be so focused on other things and more focused on God? I'm still working on this process and trying to figure out the best way to figure it out. But the one thing that I've been using is trying to think about God more and his attributes and praying. Instead of turning my thoughts towards whatever it is that I idolize I should pray instead.

Prayer is a powerful thing. It can change the way you think, live, and feel. I've been learning about this and am still trying to focus on the right things.

So while the media thinks about all the idols and what they look up to how bout we start thinking, praying more, and looking up to the one who created us.
